“There are amazing women out there who give people like us hope that one day we might become a family.”
I’m in my late twenties and we have recently discovered that the cancer I suffered from as a child has irreversibly damaged my ovaries so I never ovulate. I couldn’t believe it when we were told. I thought it was a mistake, something that only happens to other people. Not us. The only word I can use to explain how I feel is ‘traumatised’.
Ever since I was a young child, I have wanted to be a mum. It’s just something I assumed would happen. I am a very maternal person and can’t see my future without children in it. Although we’re both still reeling from this news, we have been told that we could become parents through egg donation.
It’s too early to say what we’ll do but I am so grateful that there are amazing women out there who give people like us hope that one day we might become a family.
