Egg Sharing – Recipient
It’s possible that your donated eggs might come from someone who needs IVF treatment themselves for factors unrelated to female egg quality. Some women agree to take part in egg sharing schemes at their fertility clinic in return for subsidised IVF treatment for themselves.
By receiving donated eggs through an egg sharing scheme, all the same Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) rules and regulations apply meaning that:
- your donor must have met the donor criteria
- your legal parenthood status will be the same as receiving eggs from an altruistic donor
- the information your egg share donor gave to your clinic and the HFEA will be stored and will be available to your donor-conceived offspring in the same way as it would be for a non-egg share donor
- you will be required to have implications counselling
- your IVF treatment cycle will go ahead as a typical egg donation cycle except around half of your donor’s eggs will be kept for her own treatment and the other half will be given to you.
